The Grimoire: What’s up in Gaius Town?
July is my birthday month, and I wish I could tell you that I have a ton of awesome specials to share with you. But I don’t. All I have is crazy gratitude for having you here.
What I’m working on daily?
My writing focus has been on Tales of a Vernian Youth, Tale 5. You’ll be transported to a brand new world full of excitement, magic, and OMG drama. I admit that this world has been a challenge because it’s part exciting new adventure and part parody.
Another major project I’m working on is getting the first 3 tales of Tales of a Vernian Youth ready for purchase as ebooks. I understand that many of you love to read ebooks on your devices, but may be hesitant to use an online reader. I’ll soon be offering ebook downloads direct through my website.
You may be wondering why I’m not making them available through Amazon. Well, I publish my serial fiction on Kindle Vella, Amazon’s new-ish serial writing platform. There are two rules that affected my decision: (1) we cannot offer more than 5000 words of any Kindle Vella story for free anywhere, and (2) we cannot publish any episode in more than one long-form item.
The first rule limits me by making it impossible to offer Tale 1 for free, which is a bummer.
The second rule means that I can’t publish each tale separately and then offer a “box set” of the tales later on KDP. This is incredibly limiting, so I’ve decided to publish tales 1-4 together on KDP as Book 1 or Volume 1.
Oh, but you thought I was done. No. There’s a 3rd rule that we cannot publish a long form edition of our stories until 30 days after the last episode is released on Kindle Vella. This means that I can’t release tales 1-4 on KDP until a month after I’ve finished releasing them on Kindle Vella. I publish episodes weekly, so we’re still a few months out before I’ll be able to release Book 1 on major retailers.
In the meantime, I’m working to create the ebooks for individual tales 1-3 directly through my website so that you can enjoy them on your ereader.
I’m hoping to be able to add extras to the Book 1 release. Is there anything you’d like to see? Hit that reply button and let me know!
My doctors have identified 3 potential treatments for my small fiber neuropathy. Of course, none are easily covered by insurance, and the doctors’ offices aren’t doing what they should be to jump through insurance’s hoops. That means that I’m having to spend time talking to them and playing mediator between the offices and the insurance company in addition to…well, you know…my actual job.
It’s exhausting and not going well so far. And because I only have limited energy, other things are falling through the cracks. But I’m not letting writing be one of those things because I love it!
Lost, my precious black cat, “found” (stole) a rainbow shoelace recently and has been carrying it around everywhere with him. I, being the soft parent that I am, turned its pair into a toy by connecting it to one of the dangle toys we play with. He is enjoying it immensely, except on nights when he insists on playing with his star toy instead.
He loves to run, roll, and wrestle with me as long as I’m not too scary.
